It was a 3-hour ride in a service jeep/truck but we made it in one piece! We were invited for an overnight stay at Mountain Lake Resort (MLR) and I must say we had a great time! MLR is great for big groups like relatives, barkadas and company outings! I’d say it’s one of the best team building resorts near Metro Manila because it’s complete with an obstacle course, water sports and a bunch of other things to keep everyone busy!
Mountain Lake Resort is a huge camping ground at the southeastern edge of Lake Caliraya, a man-made lake in Laguna. MLR is part of the property that includes Caliraya Springs Golf Course and Country Club.
We arrived in Mountain Lake Resort around 10 AM and had our plated breakfast shortly after: Beef Tapsilog. Still nauseous from the car ride, I didn’t have any appetite or energy.

After breakfast, we were introduced to our Boathouse Room (good for 2-3 pax) in the “Fishing Village”. MLR has four boathouses floating on the indented shoreline, each having a balcony facing the lake.
We all passed out around 11 AM, waking up an hour and a half later in time for lunch delivered to our room and laid out on the terrace. We had pancit, chopsuey, breaded fried cream dory and pork liempo. #buhaybaboy
Guests staying at the Boat Houses get a private detached bathroom a few meters inland.
Mountain Lake Resort Activities
Our afternoon activities started around 3 PM. We got to try some of Mountain Lake’s highlights. We went for a swim until it was completely dark. The afternoon snack had been served earlier: Hotdog Sandwich.
You can rent some fishing rods and go fishing from your boathouse patio. Mountain Lake Resort staff can help you with your bait and line. I heard there are big Dory in the area.
Immediately after the lake cruise, we did the Banana Boat right as the sun was setting. Nobody fell because somebody told kuya to go easy on us. We ended up doing poses and stunts on the boat like planking and crunches hoping that someone would fall into the water!
There are a bunch of other water sports activities like Kayaking, Jet Ski and Swan Ride if you have the time!
Bonfire and Astro Camp
That evening, we took a shuttle to the Caliraya Springs Golf Course and Country Club for dinner: Nilagang Baka, Crispy Pata and Veggies. We returned to Mountain Lake Resort for the bonfire. Guests staying at the Boathouse get a private bonfire pit which can seat up to 30 people. We roasted tender juicy hot dogs on the open fire and then visited the Astro Camp to go star-gazing.
Getting to Mountain Lake Resort
By Private Vehicle: It’s either you head east passing through Morong, Rizal or you head south passing through Calamba. They’re both about 2.5 hours to 3 hours each way. It really depends on the traffic situation and your preference, but in terms of distance, heading east is shorter.
By Commuting: Cubao Bus bound for Sta. Cruz for PHP 160. From Sta. Cruz, take a jeep bound for Lumot then get dropped off at the Mountain Lake Resort Gate in Sta. Lucia for PHP 140. Alternatively, from Sta. Cruz, you can also take a jeep bound for Paete but get off at Lumban for PHP 20. From Lumban, ride a trike to the resort directly for PHP 500 one way (30 mins).
