We spent Day 3 of our Insight Vacations Glorious Switzerland Tour in Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. After breakfast, we headed out around 09:30, taking Zermatt cabs from the Ambassador Hotel to the Matterhorn Glacier Express. The 30-minute cable car ride brought us up the snowy mountains of Zermatt. Skiers take the same cable cars and could get off at any of the multiple stops on the way to the top.

Upon reaching the lodge at the top of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, we had to take a special gondola that would take us to Little Matterhorn which had a panoramic view of Matterhorn to the left and Briethorn to the right. It was kind of hazy that morning so we couldn’t see Matterhorn.
The was also an Ice Palace that exhibited ice sculptures of the jade dragon and other animals. It was generally hard to breath up there as we were 4,000+ meters above sea level. The key is to take everything slow so you don’t overwork your heart, lose your breath and feel dizzy.
We headed back down the lodge to have lunch. I got the Soup of the Day (pea pumpkin soup) and the Salmon Rösti (pronounced “rusty”) all for CHf 32. Honestly, it was good for 3-4 persons.
We headed down around 13:00 and decided to take a leisurely stroll back to town for about 20 minutes, passing through the church, Zermatterhof (reminded me of the Grand Budapest Hotel) and lots of Swiss shops.
