During one of the long weekends this August 2019, my colleagues and I went on an overnight trip to Noni’s Resort in Batangas. On the way there, we decided to have lunch at Cafe Voi La in Crosswinds Tagaytay. It serves Asian fusion, specializing in Thai and Vietnamese dishes. The bright interior, tasseled lanterns and colorful printed throw pillows makes Cafe Voi La one of the most romantic restaurants near Metro Manila and an ideal date place during weekends. (Tabby Town Cat Cafe isn’t a bad idea either!)
One of Cafe Voi La’s bestsellers is its fried spring rolls with the versatile sweet spicy sauce. The Spring Roll Trio Sampler (PHP 595) includes 5 pieces of each flavor: Vegetarian, Vietnamese and Heart Palm. The best one was the one filled with sweet Chinese sausage.
The Cafe Voi La Pad Thai (PHP 595) was my favorite. The al dente rice noodles were drizzled with piquant sauce and topped with scrambled eggs, bean sprouts, toasted peanuts, grilled tofu and a slice of lime.
The Vegetable Curry (PHP 495) is perfect for vegetarians. The dish comes with generous servings of tofu but
The serving might look small, but there’s enough of the coconut curry to go around and it comes with generous portions of fried tofu and boiled pechay.
Cafe Voi La’s version of the BBQ Pork Spareribs (PHP 495) is fall-off-the-bone and served with mashed potato.
For dessert, we had the Gula Melaka in Coconut Cream with Palm Sugar (PHP 165) and the Ube Cheesecake (PHP 215/slice), which was the BEST UBE CHEESECAKE EVER. It’s balanced between fluffy and dense, a cross between a baked cheesecake and leche flan, because it has the eggy taste and texture.
