The illustration on the walls may seem like chemical compounds, but owner Joey Marcelo explained that they are actually reptilian scales. The name “Boa” is inspired by the book “The Little Prince”. Much like the illustration of the “hat” / “elephant being digested by a boa constrictor”, Boa Kitchen + Socials starts of as a brunch place in the morning and transforms into a bar at night. Once the sun sets, the sliding doors on side of the room reveal a mural of Eve and the Serpent with pink neon lights. More neon lights run across the ceiling.
The duality is expressed in their menu as well. The morning set features brunch items while the evening set contains bar chow. Most of the dishes are Asian fusion by Chef Julius Neco who had trained with Gallery by Chele. Boa Kitchen + Socials opened just last May 24, 2019 along Scout Rallos in QC.
Boa Kitchen + Socials Cocktails
As soon as I saw this on the drinks list, I knew I had to get it, but I didn’t realize how magical it would be. The Purple Potion (PHP 320) starts of blue, but when mixed with citric acid, the Sirena Butterfly Blue Gin (made of blue pea flower aka ternate) turns purple from the chemical reaction. #AlwaysChange
Chef Julius also served an experimental dessert which still goes unnamed. It looks like a pot of plant made of chocolate crumble and mint. Underneath it is passion fruit cream. You have to sprinkle it with a bit of rock salt to enhance the flavors, and that’s why I choose to call this dessert “Salt of the Earth“.
