When I first walked into Chef Arch’s Lime, I doubted I was in the right place. It looked like someone’s house whose driveway or garage parking had been turned into someone’s resto. However, as the food started to come out, I forgot where I was for a moment. Suddenly, the heat of the afternoon sun and the smell of aquarium faded away as I tasted haute Filipino cuisine. I was thoroughly impressed by the curation of Filipino street food re-invented in the mind and in the kitchen of Chef Archie Juanta. (He’s the same guy behind Kanto Freestyle 65 and Kanto Freestyle Kapitolyo as well!)
It felt like he was just having fun in the kitchen one day, accidentally discovering that certain dishes could be prepared in a different way like the Quail Egg Tempura (PHP 150) and the Balot in Red Wine Sauce (PHP 220).
Who would have thunk that tuna flakes and Sky Flakes crackers can be rolled up into a ball and be at totally new dish like the Deep Fried Tuna Sky Flakes (PHP 160), or how putting cheese in a traditional tomato-based kaldereta can create something doubly great–Four Cheese Kaldereta (PHP 320)?
My favorite was the Creamy Garlic Tuyo Pasta (PHP 250) because it was really creamy, garlicky and slightly spicy. It was greaaaat! I couldn’t help but get more than my share!
The dishes are reasonably priced, like you can get an entire Street Style BBQ Platter (PHP 250), a plate of Hot Spicy Chicken Wings (PHP 250) or some Silken Tofu Crispy Tenga (PHP 250) for only 250 pesos each though they’re good for 2 persons.
For mains, check out the creamy, peanut-y Osso Bucco Kare Kare (PHP 280), the flavorful Embutido Crispy Pata (PHP 450) and the Chicharon Bulaklak Isaw Pizza (PHP 290)!
Chef Arch’s Lime serves cocktails, beer and even hard liquor! It’s the perfect place for budget drinking with classy pulutan! It might look like a neighborhood tambayan but the food is sosyal!
