It’s my 3rd time back to Ombu and I must say that they improve every time with their innovative dishes. I like how Chef Mark Griffin Oraiz (@sexychefgriffin) takes ordinary Filipino or American comfort food and turns it into something sosyal while maintaining the same approachable and familiar homey-ness of the original dish.
This summer, they’re launching some new mouth-watering dishes. You can use my Ombu discount code VIPKONYOQUEEN to avail of a 10% discount off on all dishes until May 11, 2019!
Served with a sous vide egg, the Arroz Caldo is special because of the additional yolk coating the rice grains, creating a silky texture amidst the savory broth. The alfalfa offers a certain earthy nose to accentuate the dish. It’s not at all the ordinary watery arroz caldo that we might be used to.
The Suzi Wong is a three-layered club sandwich that consists of ham, pickle relish and swiss cheese sandwiched between buttered and fried toast. Yum!
My fave was the Three Cheese Pizza but primarily because of the unique garlic sauce. Must try!
You can use the same garlic sauce on the Bangus Croquette, which I thought was cleverly designed. Perfect for Lent!
Ombu’s version of the Tokwa’t Baboy is made with special soy garlic sauce.
Ombu is also releasing seasonal summer halo-halos this 2019! These desserts are made with flavored shaved ice so that they sustain their milkiness!
My favorite flavor is the Tres Leches Halo-halo. It has a gritty texture so I thought it had duck egg yolk in it. Turns out it’s because of the Carabao milk! So good! The other flavors are the Earl Grey Milk Tea Halo Halo and the Mango Halo Halo. Tres leches pa rin!
