Quaker Oats: Healthy Can Taste Good

A lot of people get shocked when I say I mix soy sauce into my oats. People think that oatmeal can only be used with fruits, yogurt or anything sweet and cold. However, I realized that oats could also be used to make hot savory dishes ever since our kusinera Manang Didith made an oatmeal porridge with egg white and soy sauce in 2017. It simply blew my mind.

I shared this with my BF and it was timely because we had just started our fat loss campaign around that time. Oats are considered a superfood, containing high protein equivalent to an egg or 130mL milk, 2x more fiber than rice, and beta-glucan which lower blood cholesterol to promote a healthy heart. We replaced rice, bread and pasta with oats, and experimented with a lot of recipes by swapping the carb out for oats while maintaining the same flavor. This became breakfast, lunch and dinner. Coupled with exercise, this diet helped me permanently lose 5 pounds in 2 months and become leaner.

Personally, with my busy schedule, I only had enough time to add hot water and some seasoning to my Instant Oats or Quick Oats. Mixing the ingredients in a bowl, mug or mason jar lessens dishes to wash. In fact, if I didn’t have time to heat water, I would just stick the mixture into the microwave for about 1-2 minutes. Miguel had a bit more time so he could afford to use Whole Rolled Oats and to add boiled chicken breast, mushrooms and other protein.
