Known for their roof deck offering a stunning view of Taal Lake and bona fide Japanese dishes made from ingredients imported from Japan, Aozora is the place where your taste meets the sky. Because of the success of their first branch in Tagaytay, they made a second branch near Picnic Grove where my friends and I were invited to.
At first glance, one could say that Aozora is perfect for romantic get away dates just outside of Manila. Albeit, Aozora offers more than just a place to enjoy Japanese cuisine with your S.O. This Japanese cafe and bistro offers space and functionality for family dinners, group outings, special events like weddings and birthdays.
Aozora’s offerings are organic and prepared in authentic Japanese style courtesy of their Japanese chef. We started off with their signature dish: Aozora Ramen (PHP 350). It had a unique Bulalo taste which paid homage to Tagaytay’s favourite heart warming stew, topped with sweet corn and fried garlic.
The Spicy Salmon Maki (PHP 305) and Spicy Tuna Maki (PHP 295) both had generous toppings of fresh salmon and tuna with crunchy bits. They had the right amount of vinegar, texture, consistency and evenness of mold.
Recommended by their chef, The Rainbow Maki (PHP 345) is an assortment of delicious sushi made with Tuna, Salmon, Shime Saba, Tamago and Mango. I would definitely want the whole thing to myself!
Made with Ebi Tempura, the Dragon Maki (PHP 385) is drizzled with Japanese mayo, seaweed and salmon roe.
The tender juicy Chicken Karaage (PHP 320) is fried delicately and served with potato crisps.
The fresh Kani Salad (PHP 310) comes in your choice of wasabi mayo or sesame dressing. We got the prior.
The Mixed Seafood Teppanyaki (PHP 550) is an assortment of grilled seafood (shrimp, salmon, tuna and squid) with yasai itame.
Usually good for 2-3 persons, theAozora Fried Rice (PHP 270) is the house version of yakimeshi using kani.
I was also surprised with Fried Mochi with Red Mango Ice Cream (PHP 310) and Tempura Ice Cream (PHP 265) because it was my birthday weekend. Fried mochi is really good! Thanks, Aozora!
