Philippine Airlines launched its new direct route from Manila to Sapporo last December 2018 with the new Airbus 321-200! With this non-stop flight to Sapporo, it now only takes 5.5 hours to get to this northern Japanese destination! Running 4 times a week all year-round, Philippine Airlines’ MNL-CTS route makes it more convenient and affordable to enjoy Hokkaido’s 4 seasons for as low as USD 500 round-trip promo fare. Right now, there’s only 1 flight to Chitose and it leaves Manila around 2 AM (GMT + 8). Coming back, we took the flight that leaves Sapporo around 9:45 AM (GMT + 9).
I’ve been to Hokkaido twice before–the first time with my fellow exchange students in Ateneo, and the second time with my family in 2016. My third and latest trip was with Miguel (@mykeeasy/@corkedandscrewed) because I won a round-trip Business Class MNL-CTS ticket from PAL. (Thank you, @flypal!) The experience was simply amazing! I’ve flown business class several times before through other Asian, European and Middle Eastern airlines, but Philippine Airlines hospitality is a lot warmer because it’s from the hear of the Filipino.
The Manila to Sapporo flight takes off from NAIA Terminal 2. The Mabuhay Lounge is comfortable and spacious and I especially loved the pastries! I would have abused the cocktail bar if it hadn’t been for my lack of sleep the night before.
Since I came from a whole day of work, I took the opportunity to shower at the business lounge. It’s equipped with the shampoo, body wash, conditioner and towels. It could use a toothbrush and a hairdryer.
Fly Business Class with PAL from Manila to Sapporo
#1 The selling point of flying Business Class through PAL isn’t the leg room or full reclining seat, but rather the amazing food! There is a huge difference in the quality of food and beverages between economy and business class. The Chitose route serves traditional Japanese tray sets complete with luxury mochi and ice cream for dessert. (I had the beef roll set.) As a sommelier, I appreciated the wine selection, like some of them were pretty expensive!
#2 The personalized service also made me feel great! I felt that the stewards wanted the best for me. For example, I wasn’t really sure that I wanted ice cream, but my steward insisted I get one because it was good.
#3 On top of the 15 MB free in-flight Wi-Fi, Business Class Passengers get a code for an extra 100 MB free internet.
