In collaboration with Japanese video game development company and publisher Bandai Namco Amusement, the world class hotel and casino City of Dreams Manila has created a new kind of entertainment and dining experience by bringing together virtual reality video games and gastronomy in one place: The Garage VR Zone + Food Park. There is no entrance fee, but the VR Zone costs PHP 450 per game and PHP 1,200 for 3 games. #GamesGastroGalore
The realistic experience is enhanced by the fast response of the bleeding edge virtual reality technology, paired with the 4D effects of the futuristic arcade platforms. The sight of falling simulated the feeling of falling. I was super shaken up after every game from the adrenaline rush! You’re given noise cancelling headphones for surround sound effects, and mics so you can communicate with other players as well.
While skiing down the snowy slope in Ski Rodeo, where the goal is to get to the base of the ski slope while avoiding trees and boulders within 2 minutes. Simply shift your weight left or right to turn slightly, and forward or backward to accelerate or decelerate. Turn your feet completely for sharp turns. Whenever you fail (or die), you re-spawn at a certain checkpoint. For safety purposes, it’s best to wear comfortable shoes for standing games like the Ski Rodeo.
In Mario Kart, you get to interact with 3 other players. Hand sensors are strapped onto each hand so you can grab exploding turtles and hammers and chuck them at opponents to slow them down.
Another game that involves 4 players is Hospital Escape Terror. You wake up in an abandoned hospital in a wheelchair with nothing but a flashlight. You have to find you way out of the hospital in 9 minutes by moving forward and selecting a route. Survive by avoiding any crazy characters in the game. Team work is essential; when one person dies, you all die. The halls were filled with our screams for hours! I wasn’t sure whether the anticipation of waiting was scarier than the game itself or not. Regardless, we all shat bricks. Hospital Escape Terror is so legit that medics are on standby for this game. You can quit any time in any game, but for the sake of the experience of your team mates, try to ride it out.
There are a couple of Fooz Ball tables where you can chill with friends between VR games.
Sweat and oils could leave stains and/or odor on the VR goggles, so it’s always polite to maintain proper hygiene. For this reason, they give you a face mask before they put on the VR googles.
