It was Miguel’s final month in the Philippines, and he badly wanted to go to Siquijor, a good source of Filipino healers and mystics. May he wanted to experience something mystical but, knowing him, he was probably looking for a mangkukulam to freak us both out after I recounted my yaya‘s experiences with them. Anyhoo, I got us both Cebu Pacific tickets bound for Dumaguete last June 8-11, 2018.
The trip started off really rough because we felt that we were being swindled by the locals, especially the trike drivers, but it all worked out in the end. Trying to understand where they were coming from, they didn’t really get a lot of tourists, that’s why they were trying to get the most of whoever visited just to get by. Miguel and I discovered a lot of stuff and achieved what we set off to do–meet a manghihilot/manghuhula in Siquijor.
Siquijor might be mistaken for witchcraft/sorcery, but it’s like any other province in the Philippines with its own waterfalls, lakes and beaches, but with its own charm. We had the most fun at Cambughay falls. I’d say it’s a one-of-a-kind experience in the Philippines!
