Skippy’s Gastropub is a true blue Aussie sports bar! Turning 5 this year, the pub from Oz adds some new dishes alongside the Aussie Favorites. Pretty much like everything in the land down under, Skippy’s serving is ginormous!
Skippy was a bush kangaroo who starred in an Australian TV series airing from 1968 to 1970. The intelligent kangaroo was the pet of a young boy and son of a park ranger in the series. Together, they went on adventures around the national park. Growing up, owner Stephen Bird loved watching Skippy on TV. He fondly recounted the time when his grandpa took him to see Skippy in person. (Trivia: Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was actually female because she had a pouch!) Steve eventually managed to procure Skippy’s paw after she passed away, and anyone who would ring the bell attached to Skippy’s paw would buy drinks for everyone in the pub!
We started off with a bowl of Fries Overload. This bellybuster is topped with kidney beans, salsa verde, ground meat and sour cream sauce.
Topped with a sunny side up, the Aussie Burger (PHP 580) is a double-patty wonder cemented in place by melted cheese.
Skippy’s also serves all-day breakfast meals, like the English Breakfast, which comes with toast, fried eggs, bacon strips, a 2 kinds of sausages and a hashed brown. I don’t know about you, but I think I’d need 2 of me to finish something this much!
Meanwhile, the Continental Breakfast is an equally huge platter containing toast, fried bacon strips, fried eggs, pork and beans and beef steak.
The Lasagna is a something that has recently been added to the menu.
Served on a bed of chips and with a side of sauteed veggies, the Chicken Parmigiana (PHP 450) is a huge schnitzel covered in tomato sauce and baked blended cheese.
What I love about Skippy’s pizzas is the uber thin crust! It’s almost like eating pita, but not! The Shawarma Pizza (PHP 500) is based on the Aussie version of shawarma. Drizzled with spicy mayo and topped with a generous amount of shredded greens, the Shawarma Pizza is a great way to enjoy everyone’s favorite Persian comfort food.
The Filipino-inspired Sisig Pizza (PHP 550) has a slight spicy tinge from the pepper crispy sisig, and generous portions of soft-boiled gooey egg to balance it out.
Meat Lovers Pizza
A real crowd-pleaser, the Meat Lovers Pizza (PHP 500) is topped with all the good stuff: ham, bacon, pepperoni and beef. Skippy’s gives the option to drizzle their Meat Lovers Pizza with either BBQ or tomato sauce. Can I have both?
To wash it all down, we were served some really well-balanced frozen margaritas! Perfect!
