Swing Latino is a salsa dance school in Cali, Colombia founded in the late 90’s by Luis Eduardo Hernandez (also known as “El Mulato“) with Martha Lucia Montanez. They serve as an outlet of creativity and fun for children in poverty-stricken areas of Colombia. Their social movement to empower youth in vulnerable situations transforms these children’s lives by giving them a chance to follow their dreams. They also help aspiring artists dance their way to becoming professional performers one step at a time.
Swing Latino represents Colombian culture of being carefree and full of life with their fast footwork and colorful costumes. They are well known for their energetic Cali-style salsa, which was born in Cali, the hub of salsa dancing in Latin America. (It’s a lot faster than how we know it!) Muy caliente!
In collaboration with Salsa Manila, Swing Latino comes to Manila as part of their Asian Tour this 2018! They’ll be holding a dance workshop called “Swing Latino Baila En Manila” where they’ll be teaching their Cali-style salsa, as well as other forms of Latin dances: Mambo, Chacha, Bachanga, Waracha, etc. The dance class will be held on July 17, 2018 in Joy-Nostalg (previously Oakwood Ortigas) at the Joy Ballroom on the 5th floor.
-Beginner: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM (PHP 1,500/person)
-Advanced: 3:30 PM to 5 PM (PHP 2,500/person)
As a world-class salsa dance collective, Swing Latino has won multiple titles in Colombia and worldwide. They were a finalist in the first season of World of Dance, where Jennifer Lopez was a judge, and will be competing in America’s Got Talent in the next season.
