Originally from Catalonia, a region known for gorgeous Costa Brava beach resorts, breathtaking Pyrenees Mountains, and healthy wholesome food, Elena first opened La Maripili’s doors 2 years ago in Alabang where they specialized in sweet and savory, crisp-on-the-outside and fluffy-on-the-inside churros. Now open at Ayala Malls the 30th, La Maripili Restaurant has evolved to more than just a premium churreria, they now serve amazing tapas, full rice meals, pizzas, soups, salads, sandwiches, and more.

The Kalayaan and Machuca tiles are hand-made premium Filipino tiles used to give the place a low key traditional Filipino vibe that not a lot of locals are familiar with because of the long lost Spanish influence. The secret to La Maripili’s success is in the details with this carefully crafted restaurant: they consistently deliver plates heated, their ingredients are sourced from the best, and each dish achieves multiple levels of flavor.

La Maripili” is short for Maria Pilar which is a place the owners of this establishment used to go to for authentic Spanish comfort food/home cooked meals. Elena Balaguer, churrera en Filipinas, antes abogada en Barcelona, brings the timeless Mediterranean cuisine to the Philippines.

Tapas

Dubbed as one of Spain’s most famous tapas, the Huevos Rotos (PHP 490) is made with special double cooked fried potatoes served with two fried eggs and topped with jamon serrano.

Easily one of my favorites from the menu, the Patatas Bravas (PHP 480) is made with double cooked fried potatoes served with top quality fried chorizo and topped with brava sauce (spicy mayonnaise with a chili and tomato blend).

The Artisan Burrata (PHP 600) cheese is from a Venetian man with a farm in Bacolod full of cows flown in from New Zealand. This ridiculously delicious salad is made with farm to table tomatoes garnished with pesto sauce, olive tapenade, kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes and arugula.

Soup

Speaking of which, their Carrot Soup with Orange and Ginger Roasted (PHP 260) contains all five basic flavors: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. This soup dish is healthy, sophisticated, and exquisite.

Creamy Mushroom Soup (PHP 370) is made with a combination of fresh shiitake, button and oyster mushrooms served over a bed of melted brie cheese and croutons.

Pasta and Rice

The Arroz a la Cubana (PHP 390) is a typical Spanish rice dish with homemade tomato sauce, roasted meat, fried egg and plantain. It’s the kind of meal that will keep you coming back for more.

La Maripili’s Home-Cooked Adobo (PHP 590) is traditional reciped passed down from the Spanish Filipino chefs of old. It’s made with tender chicken and pork adobo served with a sweet contrast of ripe mango and banana.

Being a thin crust pizza lover, I simply went crazy over their delicious Black Truffle Pizza (PHP 650). It’s made with fresh pizza dough with pure black truffle paste and flavorful fontina cheese and sprinkled with curly endives dressed with their signature honey vinaigrette.

The All About Meat Pizza (PHP 560) is simply all of our favorite meat flavors on a pizza. I died and gone to meat pizza heaven. It’s deliciously made with fresh pizza dough topped with supreme quality pepperoni, ground beef, smoked bacon, and farmer’s ham and pure mozzarella on a base of home-made tomato sauce.

All About Meat Pizza (PHP 540) – Fresh pizza dough topped with pepperoni, ground beef, smoked bacon and farmer’s ham with pure mozzarella on a base of homemade tomato sauce.

Churros and Coffee

We were served with both sweet filling and savory topped Churros served with chocolate and caramel dips. As expected, their signature churros are crisp-on-the-outside and fluffy-on-the-inside. These are perfect when paired with a smooth Caffe Latte (PHP 120) and/or a strong cup of Cafe Alicante (PHP 150), espresso with condensed milk.
