Looking for a quick surf getaway this weekend? Check out Real Coast and Surf! Real Coast and Surf Camp is a chill, budget-friendly, and comfortable escape from the city. Right as we walked in, we could tell that the destination is designed for surfers, adventure-seekers and beach bums.

Raina and I opted to pitch our tent at The Surf Camp instead of their premium hotel accommodations at Real Coast, because we like to rough it out. Usually, you can sleep under the stars (or even see shooting stars) and wake up to the famous Reál sunrise in your own tent (or in one of their cabanas). Unfortunately, we reached Reál on one of its extremely windy and cloudy days. The wind was so gusty! Not only did it scatter the waves making them almost impossible to surf on, but it almost blew away our cute little tent (several times)! Albeit, “all is swell” as we have found the Surf Camp’s common area the most memorable part of our stay.

ALL IS SWELL!

Right in front the “Surf Shack” (the Surf Camp’s kitchen and bar), there were tables surrounded by brightly-colored bean bags, where you can eat, drink, play games, catch up with friends and family, or even meet new people. To top it off, the food was unexpectedly great! I would have never guessed that I would find a decent chicken and waffles combo served in such a remote area of Quezon.

Given that we couldn’t do much (because of the rowdy waves and the huge crowd of locals that peppered the beach), we spent our afternoon winding down, relaxing, re-cooperating from our busy city-life schedule all while taking shots of Zabana XO tropical rum. At night, the Surf Camp usually plays a couple of movies. Raina and I snuggled up front on our bean bags and enjoyed watching Coco and Pitch Perfect 3 paired with the Japanese snacks we’ve packed for the trip.

Dishes to Try at the Surf Shack
*Breakfast is served from 7AM to 10AM. Regular dishes are served from 10:30 AM to 10 PM. They also have all-day breakfast Silog meals.

We were craving for chicken and waffles and it just so happened that Real Coast and Surf was serving it at the Surf Shack, so one of the first things we ordered as soon as we get there was the Chix ‘n’ Waffles (PHP 200)! The honey was mixed with bacon fat to give it that savory punch! The juicy, fried chicken was made perfectly!

For dinner, we had Grilled Cheese (PHP 200), one of our comfort food. The mozzy sandwich came with a tomato-based dip as a modern twist to the complimentary tomato soup. Genius!

To match the grilled cheese, we got the Mocha Madness Milkshake (PHP 170). It was actually pretty good.

The shared bathroom is really nice with tiled floors and hot water. It’s got 2 toilets and around 6 showers in each the men’s and the women’s.

How to get to Real Coast and Surf

It’s roughly a 5- to 6-hour ride by bus or van from Manila to Real, Quezon and back. If you have a choice, go for the van because it has less stops and costs around the same as the bus.

Commuting from Manila to Real Quezon: As far as we know, Raymond Transportation from Legarda, Sampaloc, Manila is the only bus line that goes to Infanta, Quezon (PHP 195 per person). The first bus of the day to Infanta Real leaves at 7 AM. When taking long haul bus trips, always TELL THE CONDUCTOR where you’re actually going, so they know where to drop you off. They should drop you off along the Siniloan-Famy-Real-Infanta main road before reaching Pacific Recreation Kamp (PaRK). From there, take a tricycle or trike from the main road to Real Coast and Surf for PHP 150 (up to 4 pax), but we were able to get one for PHP 100.

It turns out that there are UV Express vans right next to Raymond Transportation that take you to Infanta, Quezon for only PHP 220 per person. I suppose you could ask to get dropped off at the same spot as you would the bus, right at the junction from the Siniloan-Famy-Real-Infanta main road branching off to Real Coast and Surf.

Commuting from Real Quezon to Manila: While you can catch a bus at the same junction you asked to get dropped off on the Siniloan-Famy-Real-Infanta main road, it’s safer to go to the Raymond Transportation at Infanta Real, but the trike going there will take around PHP 450. If you want a good balance between saving on time and money, take the UV express from Real, Quezon to Manila instead. Ask the trike driver to bring you to one of the many van service companies in town for PHP 300. The distance from Real Coast and Surf to the nearest UV express company back to Manila is twice the distance from Real Coast and Surf to the main road junction.

Things to Bring

Real Coast and Surf Camp has everything. You literally don’t have to bring anything except for a tent if you’re planning on camping, toiletries and other personal stuff. Food and beverages are readily available.
