Located at 82 Visayas Ave, Quezon City, The Food Hive is one of the major food parks in town owned by Reymond Choachuy and company that currently houses 14 tenants each with very well renowned chefs of unique taste and technique.
On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, we were invited to check out what the buzz was all about during their Hive Warming Party where they were promoting a launch promo of up to PHP 200 on selected culinary dishes, and when you tag 9 of your friends for the event you get first dibs for free!
Rey’s Rock and Roast
Opened on the same day as Hive Warming Party, Rey’s Rock and Roast, owned by Mark Law and company serves community inspired, pure and simple island living cooking. Named after the owner of Food Hive Rey Choachuy, the Rock and Roast hails from a family business from Puerto Princesa in Palawan. At night the food that they serve becomes alcoholic as they add liquor to their rubs and marinade.
By far, my favorite dish from our Food Hive trip would have to be their Rum Cola Pork Belly (PHP 350)! It’s juicy, crunchy, flavorful, and addictive.
They also have Lechon Laing (PHP 150) which is rich, creamy, and flavorful.
La Carnita Modern Mexican Cantina
The most popular dish at The Food Hive, belongs to La Carnita Modern Mexican Cantina: the Grilled Nachos ala Bomba (PHP 195) is a concoction of sharp cheddar, mozzarella strings, La Carinita homemade cheese sauce with Mexican beef, cucumber salsa, and fried beans. Gooey and bubbly, this amalgamation of cheesy proportions is generously poured over warm nacho chips.
They also have tasty Chimichangas (PHP 190), fun to eat Jalapeno Poppers (PHP 65), and Quezo Fundido con Crispy Pollo (PHP 159).
Pappare Ristoranti‘s owner and head chef, Jarina Gem Tee, was trained in Albany, New York under renowned Indonesian chef, Yono Purnomo. They specialize in New York Style Indonesian cuisine which offers a fresh take on traditional Indo food:
The CRABonara (PHP 250) is their best seller made with fresh crab claw meat, aligue, pappare bacon, 63° egg, and parmesan.
The Seafood Pad Thai (PHP 225) is made with shrimp, fish cake, egg, kale, mushroom, secret pad Thai sauce, and peanuts.
Their Triple Bacon Pad Thai (PHP 200) is made with Pappare bacon, egg, mushroom, kale, and peanuts.
Tina and Son Modern Filipino Comfort Food
Tina and Son serves re-imagined Filipino home-cooked meals like Ginataang Baka with Ube (PHP 170/PHP 240), an interesting use of purple yam as a staple ingredient in the coconut milk dish.
Habib Kebab House
Habib Kebab House which opened just last July 2017 served: Special Beef Kebab (PHP 255), Shawarma (PHP 135), and Keema with eggplant and bread (PHP 155).
Po Bo Potato Bomb
Po Bo Potato Bomb is Chef Rosebud Benitez-Velasco and Jonah Trinidad’s first food stall venture. They specialize in comfort food that channel the inner child-like wonder within us.
The Honey Chipotle Dog (PHP 150) is sweet and spicy. A real treat for those who enjoy the classic hot dog and fries combo.
Their Umami Burger (PHP 150) is juicy and extremely tasty with every bite!
The Coney Island Dog (PHP 150) is chock filled with toppings which add extra value for its price.
Spice Guys is another interesting food stall that specializes in spicy hot noodles. You can customize your spicy hot noodle bowl with your choice of meat, broth, sauce, and noodles.
We chose the hottest combination on the menu and basically died trying: Braised beef + Szechuan Malatang broth + chili noodles.
To soothe our burning tongues, we turned to Juicifi‘s healthy Lemonade Series and Fresh Brewed Tea Series with chewy jelly.
Mozafrio Frappes and Tea Bar
Another option for drinks, Mozafrio is a quaint bar that specializes in sinfully decadent frappes and teas.
Their Signature Flavors Classic Cinnamon Chur-O-Nuts (PHP 90) and Red Velvet Chur-O-Nuts (PHP 90) are a sophisticated way to enjoy soft, warm, and sweet churros.
If you’re feeling drained on a hot summer day, make sure to check out their Blue Lemonade (PHP 85). It’s slightly sweet and sour taste will leave you energized and ready for anything. The Maureo (PHP 185), which means dark-skinned in Spanish, is one of their iconic, fun, and decadent frappuccinos.
