On New Year’s Day, the Chan side had a fancy feast at Taipei 101 Ding Xian in City of Dreams. This Taiwanese fine dining restaurant had an impressive display of gilded ornaments, intricately designed porcelain and spacious private dining rooms. Ding Xian 101 spared no expense to uphold the promise of luxury and sophistication.
We had a private room with a round table that could seat up to 20 persons. It had a lounge, a TV, a fireplace, a washroom, and 3 dedicated servers. As soon as I sat down, I was immediately poured a cup of premium Jasmine Tea.
Characteristic of a panto-style restaurant, we had the full 8-course banquet. We started off with the Maki Sushi, a Taiwanese sushi fusion with pork floss.
The Cuttlefish Sausage was my favorite! It reminded me of Taiwanese street food like blood sausage, but this had the chewy texture of cuttlefish to contrast the crispy exterior.
The Taiwanese Style Shark Fin Seafood Chowder has a rich, impressive broth well worth its value.
Paired with mint jelly, the succulent slab of Grilled Lamb Shoulder was cooked to perfection.
Another highlight dish, the Steamed Grouper was difficult to resist for its delicate taste.
I was getting kind of full at this point. With my recent aversion to fried food, I had half of the Octopus Ball ate the contents of the Shrimp Roll which I found satisfying.
Now for those who aren’t fully after the 6th dish, a traditional fine dining Chinese restaurant would serve noodles or, in this case, noodle soup. I found the Tainan Dan-Zai Noodles to be bland. It reminded me of bulalo instant noodle, except the latter was probably tastier. Well, it still does the job of filling you up!
Finally, we reached the end of our 8-course meal. The Chilled Mango Custard was so refreshing! I would have finished it if it hadn’t been for the lavish entrees!
