“Eleven is the start of something new, and eight is the symbol of infinity” said Dodie Rodriguez, bartender for 19 years and is now Dining Manager/Head Bartender at Eleven.8 Bar and Restaurant.
Co-owned by Berns Iglesias and Chef Nancy Villasis, Eleven.8 is a unique little bar/cafe/resto situated under PGHI Hotel whilst doubling as their continental breakfast venue.
An interesting name for a resto/bar almost always requires an explanation. In this case, the owners aptly named their spot as something that would last forever. Alas, most things that strive for infinity would require either massive momentum or perfect form.
Opened October 15 this year, Eleven.8 is an Asian fusion restaurant/cafe that turns into a full on bar after 2100 until 0200 hours. While a cool and versatile objective, Eleven.8 may be biting more than they can chew with their subpar quality.
Asian fusion is known for its ingenuity and originality. The entrees available in the menu regrettably lacks both, but I digress. Conjecturally, they may have been ill-prepared to cater a huge turnout of bloggers, but that does not excuse having ants crawl out of one of our dishes.
Notwithstanding, Eleven.8 succeeds in showing potential as one of few hidden gems in Quezon City but currently, they may still have alot of improvement ahead of them.
Thankfully, Dodie’s bartending experience (in my opinion) stole the show with his signature drinks that tickle both your sense of humour and taste buds:
The Unfaithful (PHP 150) is relatively sweet vodka based cocktail mixed with guava and strawberry.
The Love Potion (PHP 150) is a yummy vodka based cocktail that features the seductive relationship between lychee and cherry.
The Third Party (PHP 150) is an unlikely and delightful threesome of gin, orange juice, peach schnapps.
The Good Vibes (PHP 150) is my favorite of the four! Enjoy a tantalizing amalgamation of orange, pineapple, Blue Curacao, cherry syrup, and good ol’ rum. Certainly a combination that’ll leave you wanting for more.
For classics, Eleven.8 also has the Mojito, Margarita and Mudslide. The Mudslide was a refreshing break from the fruity drinks with the concoction of Kahlua and Baileys.
Overall, it’s safe to say that Eleven.8 is saved by Dodie’s drinks, though I wouldn’t say that those alone are enough for us to come back.
