Singapore’s Paradise Dynasty comes to Conrad Hotel Manila, and brings heaven on earth to S Maison, Metro Manila’s newest luxury mall! They’ve put a twist to the traditional Xiao Long Bao by creating unique soup flavors and encasing them in colorful wrappers.
We patiently sipped on our Jasmin Tea as the tranquility of the Chinese instrumentals set in. We were later served a tall, refreshing glass of Iced Water Chestnut.
Based on experience, one element that marks an excellence Xiao Long Bao is the wrapper. It’s important for it to be neither too thick to chew nor too thin that it breaks apart easily. Paradise Dynasty’s dimsum wrapper was thick enough to hold the contents until the Xiao Long Bao was safely deposited in my mouth. It was only then that it exploded, secreting the tasty soup and the morsel of pork.
If you think the Original Xiao Long Bao is good, wait ’til you try the Flavored Xiao Long Bao! My favorite flavors were the Truffle and the Foie Gras! They tasted like the real thing!
delicate dish, the Radish Puff Pastry (Php 148/3 pcs) was easily one of my favorite dimsums because of the contrasting textures and the after taste of radish. I love radish.
A relatively modern dimsum, we got to try was the Pork Dumpling with Hot Chili Vinaigrette (PHP 168/6 pcs). The pork was delicious, and I could’ve sworn I sensed a hint of herb.
The Chilled Sliced Pork (PHP 230) had a strong garlic taste. The semi-raw taste sort of reminded me a bit of the wet market.
An interesting dish that I did not expect to find was the Glutinous Rice Stuffed in Red Date (PHP 230). It reminded me of my childhood days of eating Birds Nest. I hated it to so much that I’ve come to hate anything remotely associated with it.
Served in an ornate celadon bowl, the Double-Boiled Chicken Soup (PHP 198) filled the body and warmed the soul.
A Chinese comfort food I’ve grown to love is the Scrambled Egg White (PHP 328) and an unpopped egg yolk at the center. It had the right amount of salt and a hint of vinegar, just the way I like it.
I never really liked Szechuan food, but when I tried the Spicy Szechuan Crispy Chicken (PHP 298), I came to appreciate complex mix of spices and the subtle hot spice that crawls from the back of the tongue. The chicken was really tasty, kind of like Sincerity Chicken!
We also had the Poached Beef in Szechuan Oil (PHP 688). My god! The beef was so tender I started to doubt if it was beef. That. Good.
What we all thought was noodle turned out to be Stir-Fried Shredded Pork in Black Bean Sauce (PHP 288) served with Chinese Crepes (wrapper). I liked how the lean pork managed to be tender!
The Stir Fried River Shrimp with Garden Greens (PHP 488) was really fresh! Super loved how they were “crunchy” and lightly salted.
The La Mien with Scallion (PHP 200) was an Asian agli olio but tastier.
